The Black Velvet Gothic Fishtail Gown is a full-length black dress cut in a trumpet silhouette — close through the body, flaring below the knee — with dramatic bell sleeves that widen all the way to the hand. It is the gothic matriarch look, and it does not need a single accessory to land.
It is made from polyester velvet with a medium stretch, so it holds a slim line without being rigid, and the O-neck pullover cut means no zip to fight with. The skirt runs 59 to 61 inches, ankle length on most people. Sizes run S through XL, and because the velvet stretches, the chart below gives bust and waist as ranges rather than fixed numbers — all in US inches. Between two sizes, take the larger one.
It suits Halloween parties and costume contests, gothic and vampire themes, witch and dark-fairytale looks, seances and haunted-house nights, stage work and photo shoots. Straight dark hair and a pale base finish the costume read. Out of costume season it is simply a long black velvet dress, which is why this one tends to stay in the wardrobe rather than the loft.
